CAIHS Tuesday Morning Message

Mr. Maloney's Announcement's

Good Morning CAIHS Families,

A few quick and important announcements.

1. I am asking that all families check their student belongings before coming to school. We have noticed that students are obtaining vapes from either local stores or older people purchasing them for them. The students do not realize the health hazards and they are starting a habit that is difficult to break. Plus they are illegal for students to have and they are not permitted in school or on school grounds. We have to attack this problem from all angles before it becomes to late.

3. As a reminder students are not permitted to wear blankets in school. If a student is cold we recommend that they wear layers of clothing and they can adjust based on comfort. Generally all rooms are kept at 72 degress.

Important Health Information and Vaping Awareness

According to the American Lung Association, Teen tobacco use has long been linked to lifelong dependency, with 9 out of 10 cigarette users claiming they picked up their first cigarette before the age of 18. The introduction of e-cigarettes has amplified the problem: Over the course of just one year, vaping's popularity grew from 2.1 million in 2017 to 3.6 million in 2018, prompting the U.S. Surgeon General to declare e-cigarette use among our youth an epidemic. Teens are getting hooked on tobacco and instead of getting education or support, they are getting suspended from school or other disciplinary measures. INDEPTH® is a new way to help.

ATTENDANCE

Regular school attendance is imperative for success in school. If your child is absent from school, please email the reason for the excuse that includes the date and purpose of the absence. You can email these to our attendance office at CAIHSAttendance Students can also bring notes down to the attendance window located in the main office. Please see the attendance requirements for all students below.

  • If a student misses 18 days of school and/or 9 days in a semester, and/or misses the same class 18 times, and/or is habitually late to school, he/she will be required to have a School Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP) meeting. From the meeting, the team will discuss the student’s attendance and make a potential recommendation for retention or being held back.

  • In order to receive credit, a student must attend 90% of his/her class days.

  • If a student misses more than 10 lawful or unlawful absences, requires an excuse from a licensed practitioner of the healing arts or medical doctor.

  • A student can be retained for failing to show academic achievement for promotion.

  • Retention or being held back shall only be considered for the worst-case scenarios and parents/guardians will be notified and a part of the process.
